Beaches and people.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
Although we enjoyed travelling on the whole, the transfers were a little longer than we wanted, longer than [included in the] itinerary.
What did you like least about Maldives?
Bleached reefs, absence of fish. Our island [Kuredu Resort & Spa] was really badly affected – [re] snorkelling. This was the primary reason we went to Maldives.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
Galle [41 Lighthouse Street] – 10/10 – Brilliant
Kalu’s [Hideaway, Uda Walawe] – 8/10 – Very nice
Ella hotel [Zion View] – 7/10 – Scenery & town – 9/10
Kandy – Hanthana [House] – 6/10 – Average
[The] Mudhouse [Anamaduwa] – 10/10 - Fantastic

What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
The best part of our holiday was spending time together as a family in the capable hands of Anura. He became part of the family and was totally charming – he sang to us, was very interesting and made our holiday for us. Fantastic choice of guide.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka and Maldives?
Awful return flight and outbound seaplane transfer. The seaplane to Malé was too late for us to catch the flight to Colombo – no fault of ours and despite trying to book transfers for 3 days, still could not get sorted. Outbound flight went too late for no good reason… Ran out of daylight and had to travel on speedboat in darkness for 1 hour – other holidaymakers came to lounge after us, but arrived hours before us on the island – very annoying…
Any other comments?
This was the trip of a lifetime and we all enjoyed it principally because we were in wonderful places together as a family.
Anura was wonderful and we loved Sri Lanka and its people smiling at us.
The flights to and from Maldives left a real sour taste.
I was very sad to see the natural wonders of the Maldives so damaged – many reasons – El Niño, pollution, global warming etc. I think we should have been warned re the snorkelling on the island. We did one boat trip for snorkelling on another island [Komandoo] which was much better but still not like 20 years ago.
