What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
It has something for every visitor – culture, scenery, animals, beaches, food, shopping.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
I noticed a lot of rubbish on the streets. It seems such a shame to spoil such a beautiful country, but I assume it’s just down to a lack of education on the subject of recycling/pollution etc.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
Fantastic! Such unusual and quirky places that we would not have found on our own. So pleased we always stayed in such small personal places, we would have hated to end up in a large complex.
Only one place on our list could do with a review – the Royal River Resort in Kitulgala. On paper this should be outstanding due to the location but the whole place was a bit tired, shabby and unclean. It felt unloved and you could tell the owner was not in residence. A real shame.
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
Chathura was wonderful and he is a large part of why we shall always have such fond memories of Sri Lanka. Nothing was ever too much for Chathura and he immediately tuned into what we like and didn’t like, pulling over to show us species of birds etc that he had spotted! We really got on well with him and he has become a true friend. Our view of Chathura was compounded when we had two other driver guides towards the end of our trip who were not as good, helpful, tidy, well spoken as Chathura.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
They were ok. Sadly Tim had a really tall chap sat behind him on the flight out which meant he couldn’t recline his seat and therefore didn’t get much sleep. I don’t think we would have wanted to upgrade for financial reasons so they were fine, we were just unfortunate with our seating. [SriLankan Airlines – Economy Class]
Any other comments?
Some of our hosts were disappointed to find out that we were on our honeymoon during our stay. They would have like to know in advance so they could put rose petals on our beds etc. Tim and I were quite happy that no fuss was made but I expect that some couples would like a bit of fuss so perhaps you could ask at booking stage whether they wanted you to let the hosts know?
