What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
Friendly people, varied destinations, wildlife, history, food, hospitality, natural beauty.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
Pillaiyar Inn in Jaffna.
Also not keen on 'foreigners' being charged higher entry fees than locals.
Any other comments?
Loved the itinerary suggested to us - would highly recommend the north and east to anyone.
Great service from Tikalanka, including prompt resolution of problem. Thank you very much John for dealing with this so quickly. We absolutely loved Jaffna as a destination (if we hadn't, we'd definitely have moved to another area as the hotel [Pillaiyar Inn] was so awful) - I'd highly recommend Jaffna and also Trincomalee to anyone (go there before everyone else does). The hotel at Trincomalee [Welcombe Hotel], though also still developing its tourism, was absolutely charming. The room was on the tatty side, but good service makes up for everything, doesn't it, and their service was superb - friendly, sometimes a bit comical, but always wanting to do their absolute best for us - we loved that we were the only Europeans there, with all the other visitors being Sri Lankans, who couldn't wait to chat with us and help us. In fact, one of them suggested something to us that wasn't on our itinerary, and which I would very highly recommend - which is the naval base there. There's loads to see - it costs US$10 for foreigners and well worth it - lots of war equipment outdoors plus small indoor museum areas - would say it was a highlight for us of that area and we spent about 2 hours there. Sena [chauffeur guide] did show us another hotel there (the [Chaaya] Blu [Nilaveli] something or other) but we much preferred the location of where we were with the amazing views from the hotel and our room.
All the other hotels and destinations suited us perfectly thanks and I know we'll go back there eventually.
Thank you again.
