What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
Wonderful, kind friendly people, delicious food. Fabulous variety – beaches, wildlife, countryside, culture.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
Journey times – but really not that much of a problem.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
Dolphin Beach [Resort, Kalpitiya] – Loved this place, just our style, very comfortable, fab outdoor shower, wonderful restaurant. The best food, especially breakfast. Great vibe although quiet.
Wilpattu Treehouse [Wilpattu] – Our least favourite, very basic. I would say super rustic backpacker level. We completely understand why but hasn’t been updated in a long time, holes in the chairs etc. Food was good but slightly soulless restaurant. Lovely people though and great balcony and view. Also good to be so close to the park. [We apologise if your stay here was affected by the less than satisfactory state of the accommodation, which, as you intimate, must be down to the lack of investment due to the downturn in tourism since 2020 – the tree houses are normally comfortable and well looked after.]
Madulkelle [Tea & Eco Lodge, Knuckles] – The obvious comment – WOW what a view, really breath-taking. Did a great trek up to a waterfall with a good guide. Lovely place to relax. However, once we had driven there we didn’t feel like driving again so didn’t visit the Knuckles Mountain Range although obviously we had a good view of them! Lovely central area, all enjoyed the games and pool table etc. Very comfortable room.
Wild Grass Nature Resort [Sigiriya] – Stunning setting so nice to be in the jungle, birds and monkeys seen from the room. Maybe a bit posh for us and we were the only guests so that was a bit strange and sad. Very comfortable rooms and great shower. Very very large room!
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
Anura was a good guy and very accommodating. His driving was good and he always made sure we had everything we needed. He also swiftly arranged a few extra trips for us. We went to Minneriya [National Park] which was great.
Any other comments?
We had a wonderful holiday together as a family. Something for everyone and lots of things we enjoy doing together. Everything went very smoothly and if we wanted to make any changes, add anything in this was easy. Tipping guide was very useful. The SriLankan [Airlines] plane was a bit tired but worth this to go direct and the staff were very friendly. [Arranged their own flights]
Such a lovely country full of smiles and greenery. We will go back in the future. You made the trip easy and hassle free and we felt well supported. I really hope the tourism there picks up soon as the country has so much to offer and we really had no problems at all. [Very good to hear of your wonderful, problem-free holiday in Sri Lanka with us. We also hope that more people will travel to Sri Lanka soon since tourism is such an important economic driver for the country and the lack of foreign visitors over the past couple of years has left the island’s delightful people in financial crisis.]
