What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
The variety and the people. The food was also excellent!
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
Service in the big hotels tended to be very slow but the little ones were great.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
On the whole it was great. We stayed in a variety of places from deluxe to basic and they were all excellent in their own way. Wished we had had another couple of nights in the Jetwing Lagoon Negombo. The hotel was fab but the city also looked fascinating but we didn’t have a chance to look around it.
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
We loved Anura! He made our lives easier and did everything he could to make sure we had a good time. He also tried to get us to sample local foods which we probably would have missed out on if it wasn’t for him.
I’ve had guides before that try to steer you to places to buy stuff but there was none of that with Anura. He just took us where we wanted to go
I had to stop at Polonnaruwa hospital as I picked up an ear infection. Somehow Anura arranged it so that I got seen immediately and didn’t have to pay anything. In fact we were treated like visiting royalty!
I would definitely recommend him and Tikalanka. I just knew that if I had a problem it would be his problem not mine to sort out which being a single mum is a wonderful change.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
The flight out was pretty uncomfortable – probably the least room I’ve ever had on a flight but the flight back was much better (more leg room) and the food was OK. The flight times out and back were perfect and the flights were on time. [SriLankan Airlines – Economy Class]
Any other comments?
I would definitely recommend both Sri Lanka and Tikalanka. The island and the people were fascinating. The food was generally very good and the accommodation interesting and diverse. It was a really great mix of culture, leisure, diving and sightseeing.
Would have liked more time in Negombo – probably would have sacrificed our second safari and stay at The Other Corner [Habarana] for an extra night there. (although we did think The Other Corner was fab).
We had a wonderful holiday. It went like clockwork. Anura was excellent and we always felt safe and looked after.
A couple of things. I think you could mention in your info to travellers is not to bother taking adaptor plug and to get currency in big places as the hotels don't tend to do currency exchanges. Also everywhere we went had free wifi which made a huge difference and again I think is worth a mention.
Sri Lanka is a beautiful and fascinating country. The only reason we won't be heading back in the near future is that there are other places to explore but I would like to think that we will all head back there one day.
I would also recommend Sujith and the LSR dive school [Passikudah]. A thorough and excellent training was provided. My kids were the only two having lessons so it was basically a private tutorial which really helped them. All their dives they had their own instructor with them which was a relief to me as my ear infection sadly meant I couldn't dive with them.
Thank you so much for organising a fantastic trip, lovely itinerary and a hassle free holiday!
