What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
Temperature Range 32C - 17C.
Its variety – beaches, jungle, mountain resorts with the associated weather for each.
We liked the focus on cultural, food and the craft industries, tea, coffee, cinnamon, rice in addition to cotton weaving & printing and clothing make-up, wood products manufacture and painting. Understanding more about the religious and cultural aspects of Sri Lankan life.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
Some of the beach and town areas were spoiled by litter for instance Negombo, which was in contrast to other places like Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Amba [Estate near Ella], Galle & Bentota where the beauty of the landscape was unspoiled.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
The holiday accommodation was very good all through the trip with special mention for Galkadawala [Forest Lodge, Habarana], Amba [Estate, Ella], and especially [The] Villa Bentota [Bentota] and Villa Hundira [Negombo].
The Atulya accommodation at Nuwara Eliya [Villa Atulya – Nuwara Eliya] was in itself excellent as were the staff, however it was a little removed from the town and lake and the old colonial area – we would have preferred to be in old town area.
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
Nihal was our chauffeur-guide – he was excellent and went beyond expectations.
Very careful driver – totally knowledgeable about Sri Lanka – History, Culture, and especially about the ornithology (all the bird species and their habits) and nature (all the flora and fauna – species and habitats).
Nihal gave us a good understanding of the religious culture, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam and how the various historic occupations had affected Sri Lankan culture today.
Nihal also introduced [us] to various street foods in the different areas we visited.
Nihal was really exceptional.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
We travelled Economy [Class] and Etihad [Airways] provided a very good service on modern planes. [London Heathrow]
Any other comments?
Really enjoyed what for us is a memorable and satisfying holiday.
