What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
So much, it is difficult to say!
- The welcoming and friendly people.
- The varied and beautiful scenery.
- The colourful and vibrant villages/small towns.
- The variety of things to see and do.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
The litter on the edges of the roads in and around towns and villages.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
The hotels were all extremely good in their different ways.
We were slightly disappointed by the Galle Fort Hotel [Galle] (see under Any Other Comments).
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
Kapila – Days 2-6: good command of English – not always easy to understand but we got used to it. Excellent guide and wonderful knowledge of birds, animals and plants.
Satheesh – Days 7-17: most obliging and tried very hard, but unfortunately his spoken English was difficult to understand.
Both Kapila and Satheesh were very good drivers.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
We flew Business Class with Oman Air with a stopover in Muscat: this achieved a significant saving and the stopover as a pleasant break for a shower/shave. The short haul legs (MSC-CMB) were not as luxurious as the long-haul but quite OK.
Any other comments?
Galle Fort Hotel: slightly disappointed:
- Bath tub was U/S – no water supply.
- Basin/shower/WC area was minute (hardly space to sit on WC!).
- Breakfast poor for hotel of this quality – no rolls or croissants – just toasted sliced bread.
- Not enough sun-loungers around the swimming pool.
But otherwise a lovely hotel and well located.
Disappointed that we did not do the train journey from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya but appreciate difficulties at peak season.
