What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
The absolute friendliness of the people.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
The pressure of adding on tips every time anyone did anything.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
Comfortable.
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
We had 2.
Sena was ‘old school’ and professional. The whole family developed an affection for him. He drove for long hours, safely. It would be great if he could listen more carefully. A few times he seems to have decided what we wanted and acted on that although we’d actually quite clearly told him something else. He might also have been slightly deaf.
Ravi had a greater struggle speaking English, and was excellent at taking us places and was wonderfully helpful and patient in waiting. But we felt it was as well that he was only needed to drive us because conversation really wasn’t easy.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
We flew Oman Air and were very happy with their service. [own arrangements]
Any other comments?
It might be worth being aware of 2 things when it comes to the Whale watching company you use.
- There IS a card machine to use - Pathi had told us there wasn’t.
- The company dish out promethazine (my GP daughter identified it) to every passenger to prevent sea sickness. This effectively knocked us out so we slept on the way to see the whale, on the way back, and were lethargic the rest of the day. This is not such a great idea because it is prescription medicine and some Tikalanka guests with particularly heart problems may be adversely affected. It would also not benefit Tikalanka to face litigation!
