What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
The people. Respectful to each other, the place and nature.
The scenery was incredible.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
The heat, but that’s just me!
Not being 100% certain of the tipping. [For most Westerners not used to a tipping culture, it is very difficult to know when and how much to tip. However, we should have sent our suggested tipping advice with your departure information so many apologies for the oversight.]
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
The accommodation we stayed in was obviously top of the range and of an incredibly high standard. [The Wallawwa, Kotugoda; Lake Lodge Boutique Hotel, Dambulla; The Kandy House, Kandy; Camellia Hills, Dickoya]
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
Nihal was just wonderful. Such a considerate, kind man who made every effort to ensure that our stay was the best it could be. He took the time to pick up on our areas of interest and made a point of pointing out resulting points of interest such as the birdlife and plants.
He was always on time and took great joy in sharing his love for Sri Lanka.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
No problems. [Booked their own flights]
Any other comments?
We had an incredible holiday, made all the better for having such a wonderful guide. The quality of the hotels and service surpassed our expectations.
It would have been useful to have known to put some socks in my bag for the temple visits as without socks, I burnt the soles of my feet on the incredibly hot sand and rock! [Thanks for your feedback and we will emphasise how hot the ground gets when wearing bare feet on the island!]
I found it uncomfortable on our visits to the gem shops, wood carving etc. and felt the need to make purchases without actually knowing what the appropriate price bracket was. I know we paid over and above what we should have. [Visits to gem shops, wood carvers and spice gardens are standard stops on guided holidays in Sri Lanka, but you shouldn’t feel pressured into buying anything. The only way of getting some idea of a fair price for items is to visit the government-run and price-controlled shops, Laksala, or go to a big department store in Colombo.]
