We are now back in the UK, after another fabulous trip to Sri Lanka, and thought we would give you some feedback.
Oceans Edge [Tangalle]: Brilliant house for a get away from it all holiday, and as a group, we loved it. Staff were friendly and accommodating, and the chef produced superb meals on a very small budget. Good pool, stunning beach, sadly we couldn't swim in the sea because of the undertow and rip tides. The down side was that it was quite a distance from the main road and isolated, although for us it wasn't a problem.
Tamarind Tree [Airport]: Despite being a bit tired now, this is still a very good airport hotel. Restaurant was a bit grubby, but we believe that there is a refurbishment plan going on at the moment.
Hotel Sigiriya [Sigiriya]: Good hotel, nice setting.
Hanthana House [Kandy]: it was good to meet Pathi and his family, and his wife and her team fed us extremely well! We enjoyed our stay here, but on reflection we think we would have preferred to have been in Kandy.
Cocoon Hills [Nuwara Eliya]: Don't send anyone else here!!! It was cold (physically and emotionally), dingy and grubby. The decor was a strange mix of different periods. The staff were friendly. There was a limited choice of menu for evening meal, and surprisingly small portions in comparison to everywhere else we stayed in Sri Lanka.
The Wallawwa [Airport]: Complete contrast to Cocoon Hills. Bright, open, clean, delightful staff, excellent food. A lovely place to end our holiday.
It was good to see Sena [chauffeur guide] again, we think he coped very well with the mad bunch that we are!!!
We were talking to the manager at The Wallawwa, and he was telling us that the group are expanding, to include a hotel in Galle, next to 41 Lighthouse Street (which currently one of their directors own) - small world seeing as Fiona, Bob and Sarah stayed there on their last trip, so we are now planning a return visit to include Galle and then the north of the island!
Thank you for organising another brilliant trip to a lovely part of the world. We feel very fortunate to have visited the National Parks and seen so many animals in the wild, and to meet so many friendly people.
