Overcrowded by tourists in some places.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
Excellent.
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
He [Anura] was very good and made efforts over and above the call of duty to make the tip a good one. His knowledge of the country was good and his expertise in relation to birds was very helpful and a great asset to us. My only criticism was that he was perhaps too keen to extol the virtues of Buddhism and was a bit “preachy” on the subject.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
Etihad was good but in future I would use direct flights without a Gulf stop-over. [Flights not arranged by Tikalanka]
Any other comments?
Thank you very much for arranging such a good holiday for us. We all enjoyed it very much. The hotels were all good, and the arrangements all worked well.
I referred to the overcrowding in some places. This was a particular issue at Yala, where there now far too many jeeps all chasing after the same poor animals. I would not go there again, although we very much enjoyed Bundala, which was comparatively empty of tourists. I suspect that other National Parks would be quieter than Yala. Kandy was also very busy but I suspect that was at least partly because we were there on a day when many local schools had organized school visits ahead of half term. We were glad that we got to Sigiriya at 7am when it opened and just ahead of the crowds.
