What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
Courteous people, brilliant service, great food.
Climate, especially in English winter. Great birding. Varied holiday destination - something for everyone. Scenically and culturally full of interest in small island.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
Rubbish! Not collected - burnt in small fires.
Unsanitary drainage systems - even in some hotels and onto tourist beaches. (Advice for safe bathing!).
Over-exploitation of game reserves with traffic jams of 4x4s [Yala]. Bundala and Kalametiya the best.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
Obviously we chose to pay for boutique so will be biased to that end of the market.
Lake Lodge [Kandalama, Dambulla]. Professionally run, lovely setting around pool with lake views. Excellent food and service.
Ellerton [Kandy]. Beautiful bungalow in new ownership. Very friendly. Excellent food and service.
The Planter’s House [Koslanda]. Gorgeous setting up seriously bad road (seemed even worse in the dark). Good honest staff doing their best under little supervision - the owner hasn’t visited for over 3 years - just Skypes staff! Amazing that they have maintained the house and grounds so well. Perfect setting to enjoy tea country and walk to Lipton’s Seat. Chef needs developing. New management company were visiting and have proposals (Wilde & Co). May become very expensive?
Turtle Bay [Tangalle]. Really well run hotel on pristine beach. Food and service excellent. We had the best room - number 3! New port developing nearby - management have concerns that it may affect exclusivity.
Coco Bay [Unawatuna]. The best food, excellent service. Staff striving for perfection. Very professional. Great position to enjoy Galle and beaches. Didn’t do cooking class, but had great reports of ‘Sonia’s’ nearby. Wished I had done it.
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
Faultless service. Knowledgeable, very timely, good professional manner, very good English and keen to improve. Picked up on our interest in birds and made it a quest (115 species identified). Good humour. Helped us to understand and appreciate the culture, history and politics of the country. [Niroshan]
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
As easy as any flight could be. Superb in-flight service. Good films. Good food (as flight food goes). [SriLankan Airlines - Economy Class]

The whole experience exceeded our expectations. We had a wonderful, stress free holiday which was full of interest. We have great memories. Thank you.
