What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
We stayed in a total of 9 different lodges/hotels, in 14 nights. Here is our scale by which we judged the accommodation:
Excellent (3) - Amazing places! - Mandira Strathdon [Bungalow, Adam's Peak], 98 Acres [Resort, Ella], Cinnamon Wild [Yala].
Very good (3) - Kassapa [Lion's Rock, Sigiriya], Fort Bliss [Galle], Villa Araliya [Airport].
Average (1) - Kalu's Hideaway [Uda Walawe].
Poor (2) - Tea Bush Hotel [Nuwara Eliya], Paradise Beach Club [Mirissa].
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
Our guide Anura was a super gentleman. He was polite, efficient, punctual, helpful and had a sense of humour! Nothing was too much trouble for him. He was knowledgeable and informative about whatever subject we asked about. We 3 became 'friends' over the 2 week holiday and were sad to leave each other at the airport.
Any other comments?
Overall a very good experience from the booking/planning process with John and right through the holiday.
Flights with Emirates [from Manchester] were very good indeed.
The vehicle we travelled around in Sri Lanka was good, comfortable and air conditioned.
A couple of disappointments with the accommodation - Tea Bush Hotel and Paradise Beach Club. Kalu's Hideaway was a challenge - a dark and dingy garden room, locked out on the balcony and dead cockroaches around the place, not very clean room. Changed to a room in main block for 2nd night. Water was found to be pouring out of air con system, so we moved to another room. The staff were rather 'pushy' in the bar and restaurant, though the manager was helpful and the reception staff very good. Not meant as a complaint - just feedback.
