What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
The wide variety of experiences, activities, landscapes and environments in one small country. The green countryside and wildlife – both on safari and elsewhere were lovely.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
Nothing really.
We were glad we weren’t driving as this looked difficult – especially overtaking.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
Generally we thought that the standard of accommodation was very high. We especially enjoyed the hotels – Zion View, Ella; Buckingham Place, Tangalle; and Imagine Villa [Hotel], Mirissa – with excellent food and service.
Ranweli Holiday Village [Airport] had lovely room and dining area but other facilities and ecological area looked in need of some attention.
Hotel Sigiriya [Sigiriya] was a bit inflexible – couldn’t have breakfast after returning from early morning climb of rock at around 9.30am.
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
Nihal was excellent. He was a good driver (we always felt confident about this) and a knowledgeable guide – especially about wildlife, plants and birds, as well as local places. He was always friendly, helpful and respectful, but not intrusive. We enjoyed travelling with him.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
They were both good. Good service on board and both flights went on time (London to Colombo; and return). Check-in facilities at Heathrow were good, also at Colombo airport on return flight. [SriLankan Airlines - Economy Class]
Any other comments?
We had an amazing and really enjoyable holiday – we would recommend Tikalanka to others.
Based on our experience of a driver in another country (where a mobile phone was provided for us to contact driver if we needed to), we brought an unlocked mobile phone with us on holiday, topped up a local SIM and was able to use this to contact our driver (by call or text) if we changed our plans or wanted to meet at different time or place. This was very useful at times. You might want to consider providing this facility for other clients.
Meals/refreshments on route. We got confused at times by not agreeing if/when we were going to eat/drink during the day – and where. Sometimes we didn’t stop and sometimes stopped at a restaurant, where we would have preferred to shade. Perhaps drivers ought to agree a ‘refreshment’ plan with clients whenever they set off on a journey?
