What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
The sheer variety of experience on offer, especially the vastly different landscapes. Plus the food was excellent and people very friendly and the hotels were absolutely fantastic (with one exception).
What did you like most about Maldives?
Just about everything really – the setting, the food, the water activities. Probably the highlight was the ability to just go straight into the water from our villa and enjoy the fantastic snorkelling. [Constance Moofushi]
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
We loved all the hotels except [The] Secret Kandy. While the room itself was very nice, the staff seemed poorly trained and could speak little English, making the whole experience rather awkward and uncomfortable for us (especially when eating in the restaurant area, where the staff kept hovering awkwardly meaning that we couldn’t have a proper conversation). The hotel was a clear notch below all the others that we stayed in.
What did you like least about Maldives?
Having to leave! I don’t think there was anything we disliked about the Maldives.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
Generally excellent, as mentioned above. The rooms were all superb and the settings were fantastic. The staff were generally friendly and helpful, although we did find the experience of tipping to be awkward. The Secret hotels (Kandy and Ella) specifically said to tip at the end of the stay, but we felt that doing so definitely affected the quality of our [The] Secret Kandy experience, so tipped as we went along for Ella which seemed to work well.

What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
We got on extremely well with Ravi and thought he was excellent throughout. Driving in Sri Lanka doesn’t seem to be easy and he did a very good job of making us feel comfortable. He also had very knowledgeable contacts to act as guides in Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya and at the Temple of the Tooth.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka and Maldives?
Generally the flights worked well and we had no problems with tickets. Coming back from the Maldives was pretty hectic at Male, but that was just due to the volume of people. [SriLankan Airlines – Economy Class]
Any other comments?
I thought the itinerary worked very well indeed. Six nights of relaxation in the Maldives after what had been a fairly active time in Sri Lanka was the perfect balance for us. Many thanks!
