What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
Variety of landscape, vegetation, fauna and flora.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
Wide discrepancy of wealth. Poverty of some areas. Traffic.
Any other comments?
We returned from our Sri Lankan holiday last Monday. It proved to be an amazing holiday from beginning to end. It was expertly planned, so that we saw just about everything Sri Lanka had to offer.
Sena, our driver and guide, was excellent - proud of his country and full of information on its history, and its plants and animals. We enjoyed his company very much - nothing being too much trouble for him.
We won't forget the bullock ride or the full body massage for a very long time! (or the leopard and [sloth] bear on the safari trip [Yala West National Park]).
The choice of hotels was very good, some quite outstanding - especially as we were a late booking. There was one however that was disappointing - The Tea [Bush] House Hotel in Nuwara Eliya which we labelled Fawlty Towers of Sri Lanka! It offered no comforts whatsoever - the rooms were basic and cold, and were not ready for some time after we arrived. As for the food - the omelettes we ordered took over an hour to arrive, not to mention the wine which arrived in a plastic bag as there was no licence.
However our two nights stay there did not spoil our holiday - the next hotels more than made up for that disaster.
Thank you for all your help - we will remember our holiday for a long time, and have many happy memories.
An extremely interesting holiday. Sena was superb.
All accommodation excellent, with the exception of Tea Bush Hotel, Nuwara Eliya - the 'Fawlty Towers' of Sri Lanka! No heating in the bathroom or bedroom, until fan heater provided eventually. Food average but service very poor and amateurish. No licence, so wine had to be produced in a plastic bag!
Heritance Kandalama [Dambulla] probably the best, all round. Lunches in [Heritance] Tea Factory Hotel [Nuwara Eliya] and [Jetwing] Lighthouse Hotel, Galle very good.
