What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
Atmosphere; friendliness of all the Sri Lankans. Climate, scenery and wildlife. Oh and the local food.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
There was nothing we did not like, but in hindsight tried to do too much. A new hotel nearly every night was quite exhausting.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
All the accommodation, except perhaps Kalu’s Hideaway [Uda Walawe], was quite excellent. The two boutique hotels at Turtle Bay [Tangalle] and Lake Lodge [Kandalama, Dambulla] were particularly pleasant with amazing staff, excellent food and lovely rooms.
Kalu’s Hideaway though being in a fantastic location was let down by inattentive staff, poorish food, and appalling bedrooms – Premier Inn give better!
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
Niroshan was excellent. His driving was first class and his knowledge of every aspect of Sri Lankan history, culture, wildlife and topography was outstanding/amazing. He was always trying to please, but never ‘over the top’. Always helpful but never pushy and took us to some excellent roadside eating spots!
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
Arranged our own and the flights OK with Etihad. Colombo airport a shambles! The restricted arrival and departure times to the evening made for a VERY late arrival at the superb Galle Face Hotel [Colombo].
Any other comments?
The whole experience with Tikalanka was excellent. The itinerary good, though probably trying to do too much, the accommodation was generally excellent and the various excursions ideal. I cannot fault the service provided and will certainly recommend you [to] others planning to visit this jewel of a holiday experience.
