What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
The variety of things to see and do in a relatively small area; climate; friendly people; the train ride from Nuwara Eliya to Ella was spectacular; Gal Oya Lodge was our favourite place.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
Curry! We basically enjoyed all of it so there was nothing we didn’t like.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
Hanthana House [Kandy] – excellent first stop – comfortable, very welcoming and amazing views over the valley. Perhaps a non-curry option for dinner would be good. Pathi was a great host.
Zion House [Zion View, Ella] – fairly basic – beds not comfortable but otherwise rooms clean, service excellent, and views from balcony amazing.
Gal Oya Lodge [Gal Oya] – wonderful – our favourite place! Setting, food, bungalows brilliant. Informative tours/walks and manager (Phil) told us all about the on-going research project which was very interesting.
Uga Bay Resort [Passikudah] – lovely hotel for some R&R. Great rooms and setting and beach bar was lovely place to sit although service was v. slow.
Cinnamon Village [Habarana Village by Cinnamon, Habarana] – a bit ‘package-tour’ but fine for what we needed.
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
Anura was very good – a lovely, friendly helpful man with an excellent knowledge of birdlife and Sri Lanka culture and history. Always on time and happy to go/do what we asked. Brilliant with children and a great sense of humour. We did struggle at times to understand his accent but he was always patient with our endless questions and happy to chat/take photos and go the extra mile.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
Food/drink mediocre but otherwise good. No delays, direct [non-stop] flight and good in-flight entertainment so basically ticks all the boxes. [SriLankan Airlines – Economy Class]
Any other comments?
Very happy with Tikalanka Travel [Tours] – thank you John for sorting out a perfect itinerary. Everything ran very smoothly on the ground in Sri Lanka and we had a brilliant family holiday to remember.
