What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
Variety. People.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
Abundance of elderly British tourists.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
All good, though mixed.
[Kassapa] Lion’s Rock, Sigiriya was poor. Smelly bathroom, poor food, average service. Quite amateur. Staff need training.
Buckingham Place [Tangalle] and Jetwing St. Andrew’s [Nuwara Eliya] – excellent.
Zion View [Ella] – wonderful.
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
Unfortunately we had a replacement [guide] after Kandy. It was not confidence inspiring that the replacement [Nalaka] didn’t seem to have read the itinerary. We had to tell him where we were going. He got in a panic as he hadn’t Googled Buckingham Place and couldn’t find it. Irritating.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
SriLankan [Airlines] were APPALLING on the way out. Shocking food, shocking service.
Slightly better on the return. Take your own food. [Economy Class]
Any other comments?
Guides need to know the itinerary. Also need to be flexible if there are road works (Dambulla).
Need better time keeping.
1st driver [guide; Hasantha] had his own agenda despite everything we said which was unflinching and in the end time-wasting. They were conscious of their commission in attractions – great pressure for whale watching etc.
