What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
Wildlife. Friendly, courteous people. Scenery. Food.
Variety of scenery.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
Driving. Humidity.
Prices in dollars – just when you thought you were getting your head round Sri Lanken Rupees.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
Lake Lodge [Boutique Hotel, Dambulla] – fair location – could walk to lake, clean, good service, good food, fair facilities. Would stay again.
Mountbatten Bungalow [Kandy] – fair location – lovely grounds, clean, good service, fair food, fair facilities.
98 Acres [Resort & Spa, Ella] – fair location – beautiful views from room balcony, clean, food fair – evening hit and miss, breakfast good, loads of steps to get to restaurant, facilities – fair, only place we didn’t use pool as it was quite a walk and there were children in it!
Mahoori Safari Park [Mahoora Safari Camp, Yala] – fair location, clean, service poor – this is where we had the issue with the early safari payment. As they get a lot of business from Tikalanka they should have handled this better. It spoilt our BBQ meal/evening. [We apologise for the miscommunication between Mahoora and Tikalanka that affected your evening but we are glad that it was all sorted out and the early morning jeep safari went ahead as planned. We agree that Mahoora should have managed the situation better and we are discussing our future working relationship to ensure such mishaps do not happen again. Many thanks for your understanding.]
Buckingham Place [Tangalle] – location excellent, clean, service brilliant, food good, (and we also walked into the village for two meals), facilities very good. Would stay again.
[The] Merchant Galle Fort [Galle] – location excellent, clean, but there was a smell in one of the bedrooms, service good, food good, facilities – not really applicable as there was no pool. It was nice being able to walk out of the grounds and be in the buzz of things.
Villa Hundira [Negombo] – unfortunately we literally arrived, had a look round their Thimble Project, had a swim, ate and then got up early. Location was poor – nothing else other than the lagoon to look out on. Noise from airplanes and lots of mosquitos. Service at mealtime was slow but everyone was pleasant. Food was fair.
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
Kapila was great. Very knowledgeable about wildlife and every location we visited. He was prepared to make every effort to make sure we had a good time. We felt safe with his driving. Extremely friendly.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
Very good. Just the right amount of transfer time in Dubai. Emirates Airline are good. [London Gatwick - Economy Class]
Any other comments?
On reflection, doing Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla [cave temples] in the same day was a mistake! It was very warm and physically challenging.
Really pleased that there was good WiFi in every hotel, and AC.
It was such a great holiday - still buzzing! Thank you.
