In October 1979, The Police released their seminal album Regatta de Blanc to critical acclaim. Included on the album was the lead single and soon-to-be global hit Message in a Bottle with a chorus beginning “I’ll send an SOS to the world”. Forty years on, we send an SOS to the world – Support Our Sri Lanka. The island needs you to visit after a very difficult six months following the tragic events on Easter Sunday with tourist numbers well down on the past few years, which has had a devastating impact on the local people and national economy. However, as always, there is a flip side. Fewer visitors mean quieter beaches, less crowded cultural sites and wildlife reserves, and more tranquil accommodation. With deals galore on offer at many of our favourite hotels until next April, it is definitely the time to visit Sri Lanka. So, come on in, the water’s lovely!
