Beneath the undergrowth, Heritance Kandalama, Dambulla, Sri Lanka

Congratulations to Heritance Kandalama as it celebrates 30 years of leading sustainable tourism in Sri Lanka. Designed by the world-renowned local architect Geoffrey Bawa, the resort is remarkable for being the first LEED-certified and Green Globe 21-certified hotel in Asia, demonstrating its dedication to environmental stewardship. It also boasts Sri Lanka’s longest-certified ISO 14001 Environment Management System. Even today, the hotel doesn’t cease to amaze many a guest who is lucky enough to stay there.

Heritance Kandalama is a marvel in architecture and sustainability. Along with the novel and awe-inspiring design of the hotel, unique art works were commissioned by Bawa to compliment the hotel and its distinctive spaces, blending European thought with island talent. He collaborated exclusively with some of Sri Lanka’s most renowned artists such as the fabric specialist Ena De Silva and sculptor Laki Senanayake.
